Really not sure what it is that causes this phenomenon, but it appears a significant percentage of folk lose the ability to put one foot in front of the other as soon as they find themselves on a moving walkway or an escalator. The clue is in the name in the case of the former, but in both scenarios one can’t help wondering what would possess someone to deliberately move at a pace slower than they had been travelling at, or indeed to simply NOT move at all.
Admittedly a lot of people might not leave flights to the last minute, like a certain someone, and so maybe enjoy the gentle yet crowded “thrill” of a motorised trundle, but personally I find it bonkers.
I have taken to defaulting to the stairs whenever an escalator is involved; guaranteed to be faster.
