First visit sets bar high….

First time here was eight years ago and I vividly recall the taxi ride from the airport, mainly because I thought it might have seen me shuffling off this mortal coil.

The driver seemed vague on the destination – standard, now understood – but shot off and reached 140kph within a blink of an eye – so far, so mildly concerning. However, the fact he was on his mobile, therefore driving one-handed throughout, was a shift from “concerning” to “disconcerting”!

And that’s when the beeping started…..

Initial thought was I was on life-support and having a “stay away from the light” moment, but it quickly registered someone’s seatbelt wasn’t on. Me….nope, safe and sound; ah, the apparently novice driver doing 140 whilst on his phone! All boxes ticked…..we’re all going to die!

Anyway, didn’t die and it was the ideal intro to taxis in the Middle East, a perfect portrayal of the norms. πŸ˜‚
